Ancient Rome had incredible technology. China was far ahead of Europe in many ways. Baghdad was a center of intellectual brilliance. Yet none of them sparked the Scientific Revolution. Only 17th century Christian Europe did. The evidence points to Christian theology—particularly the doctrine of creation—as the key difference. This wasn't just "the air they breathed." It was explicit theological justification that legitimized studying the natural world as a means of understanding and glorifying God.
