On November 13, 1974, 23-year-old Ronald DeFeo Jr. committed the horrific act of shooting and taking the lives of six family members at their home. The family lived at 112 Ocean Avenue, a grand Dutch Colonial Revival house nestled in a suburban neighborhood in Amityville, located on the southern shore of Long Island, New York. After a seven-week trial, DeFeo was convicted in November 1975 and was sentenced to six consecutive terms of 25 years to life in prison. He died in prison in March 2021.
