Chapter Summary and Overview:

Revelation chapter 6 describes the opening of the first six of the seven seals on a scroll by the Lamb (Jesus Christ), which unleashes a series of divine judgments on Earth. These judgments are represented by the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse—a conqueror on a white horse, a rider on a red horse bringing war, a figure on a black horse causing famine, and Death on a pale horse. The fifth seal reveals the souls of martyrs crying out for justice, and the sixth seal brings about cosmic disturbances like a massive earthquake, the sun turning black, the moon turning blood-red, and falling stars.

The Four Horsemen:

The opening of the first four seals releases four horses and their riders.

White Horse: The rider is given a crown and goes forth to conquer.
Red Horse: Its rider is given a large sword and power to take peace from the earth, causing people to kill each other.

Black Horse: The rider carries scales, signaling a severe famine where a day's wage buys very little food.

Pale Horse: The rider is named Death, followed by Hades; they are given the power to kill one-fourth of the earth's population through war, famine, plague, and wild beasts.

The Fifth Seal:

The souls of martyrs are seen under an altar, crying out for God to avenge their blood. They are given white robes and told to wait a little longer for more martyrs to join them.

The Sixth Seal:

This seal brings about the most dramatic events, described as the "wrath of the Lamb".

A great earthquake occurs.

The sun turns black.

The moon turns blood-red.

Stars fall from the sky.

The sky recedes like a scroll.

People of all ranks hide in terror, trying to escape the wrath of God.
