Scorpio New Moon Mercury Conjunction

I, like many others who talk about the Full Moon and New Moon, have gotten caught up in the sensationalism of the newness of the new moons and the fullness of the full moons with out actually elaborating upon the lunar cycle itself. Which happens to go from New Moon to New Moon, for the darkness is both the end and the beginning. While the full moons are culmination points, they are also the "full" realization of what was seeded previously. Not dissimilar to seeing a pregnant woman, it's typically not till seeing the full belly before the realization that another being is about to enter into this realm. There may have been knowledge of it before, however there is no denying it now. It's somewhere between the full moon and the next new moon that the birth actually takes place. Life just happens so fast that the subtle serpentine cycles of the moon can easily be over looked. This new cycle really is no different, however with the dynamic dance of the planets in the sky right now, I suspect it may be a little more noticeable over all.

This New moon seems to ring loud with the Scorpionic nature it's germinating in. Drenched in water, going deeper into the darkness than ever before, bringing shocking, revolutionary truths to the surface. Similar to the Taurus full moon we recently experienced, this Scorpio New moon is also at an extreme point in it's elliptical path around the Earth, only this time the Moon is at it's furthest reaches, also known as apogee. So instead of being larger than normal--if we were actually able to see the new moon--it is the smallest it can appear in our sky. Mercury in retrograde is also preforming what is called an inferior conjunction with the Sun at the same time(also known as a cazimi or being at the heart of the Sun), a transformation moment for Mercury itself. It's referred to as inferior because it is on the Earth side of the Sun and therefore doesn't appear as brightly. Like the moon, Mercury is too close to the Sun to be visible from Earth right now. In addition to this, Uranus is opposite this whole luminary/messenger congregation in the sky. So in order starting with the Sun we have the Sun, Mercury, the Moon, Earth, and Uranus. To top it all off, we have multiple planets at the latter five degrees of all the water signs, creating a grand water trine; this New Moon in Scorpio holding one of the three angles that form the triangle in the sky. The other two angles being Jupiter in Cancer with praise on high, and Saturn with Neptune in Pisces where hope seems hopeless and daydreams are the dreamiest.

Mercury's conjunction with the Sun is taking it from evening star position, to the morning star position. Meaning it's going from being visible on the western horizon after the Sun sets, to being visible on the eastern horizon before the Sun rises. Mercury as an evening star takes on more feminine, receptive qualities whereas Mercury being the morning star brings out more masculine, assertive qualities. This is also akin to the Greek God, Hermes, going in and out of the Underworld. Evening star is Hermes in the Underworld. Morning star is Hermes in the Mortal realm. One one hand, Mercury being in the Underworld seems scary, but in truth that's when we get to breathe a sigh of relief, for it is when we see him in the Mortal realm we must hold our loved ones close in case it is their souls he will ferry off to the afterlife. A bit ominous, a bit foreboding, a bit dramatic perhaps, but this seems like Mercury coming out of the Underworld, relaying a message to the Moon as she goes deeper in. Into the Underworld, into the other-world, into the inner-world.

Scorpio is the fixed water sign that holds the dark of the dark. It's where there is more night than day and you know there is yet still more darkness to come. It's where one can wake up to an early freeze and the last fruits in the garden are so frost bitten they are no longer able to be harvested. It's where the first cruel bitter realizations of the cycles of life can be so easily seen. It's when nature starts to get vicious while resources begin to run thin. It's not yet winter, but a deadly slumber is creeping in. I think that is part of the reason Scorpio is the sign of the Moon's fall. It's when the realm of fortune doesn't seem so fortunate after all. Strife, struggle, and severing begins. However, there is medicine in the bitterness, there is medicine in our own shadow, if only we know where to look, and honor what is hallow.

Water is abundant in the sky right now, making our world fertile and ready for new growth. Water also has some incredible healing properties if only we allow ourselves to utilize it. It's nature is feminine, so if you want to rush forward, take a few extra moments to sit with your thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Really sit with them, make friends with them, they are there for a reason. The energy of Scorpio has a way of bringing deeper levels of intimacy, with ourselves and with others if only we are brave enough to venture into the dark. It is our inner knowing that lights the way. I don't expect the full knowledge of what is being planted now to be completely realized until the next full moon. So take it easy, take it slow, and stay true to you in the process.

And with a Uranian twist lifting our watery kite to new heights; expect the unexpected, prepare for what is not there, and be willing to see the unseen.
