Swiss steak is an old-fashioned recipe that’s hearty, comforting and incredibly delicious! It has tender fall apart beef and carrots in a rich and bold tomato gravy. Perfect for a cozy family dinner!

Swiss Steak

Ingredients
2-3 lbs chuck steak (can also use chuck roast)
1 onion, sliced
4 garlic cloves, minced
28 oz can crushed tomatoes
1 cup beef broth or water
1 1/2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 lb carrots, sliced 1/2 inch pieces

Directions
Trim beef of excess fat and slice into chunks. Season both sides well with salt and pepper.
Heat oil in a pan over medium high heat and sear in batches, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
Add more oil and sauté onions and garlic for 2-3 minutes.
Add crushed tomatoes, beef broth or water, and Worcestershire sauce. Season well with salt and pepper.
Return the beef back to the pan and bring to a boil. Lower heat between medium low and cook for 1 1/2 hours. Add more broth or water if needed.
Stir in carrots. Check seasonings and add more salt and pepper if needed. Cover and cook for another 30 minutes or until the beef just falls apart and carrots are fork tender.
