The Alexamenos Graffito and Jesus

The Alexamenos Graffito etched on the wall of a building located on Rome’s Palatine Hill is one of the earliest renderings of Jesus Christ.

The graffiti not only mocks a Christian man by the name of Alexamenos, it portrays Jesus in a negative light.

But the drawing also reveals that creator of the graffiti knew that Jesus was crucified and that Christians considered Him to be God.

Though Alexamenos was being mocked, the graffiti revealed that he was probably actively sharing his faith in a culture that was very critical of Christianity.
