The megalodon was a colossal creature. While exact estimates vary, recent research suggests it could reach lengths of up to 60-80 feet (18-24 meters), making it about three times longer than a modern great white shark.
Time Period: It roamed the oceans approximately 23 to 3.6 million years ago, during the Early Miocene to the Pliocene epochs. Dinosaurs were long extinct by the time the megalodon appeared.
Diet: As an apex predator, the megalodon had a powerful bite and preyed on large marine mammals, including whales, dolphins, seals, and sea turtles. Fossilized whale bones with megalodon bite marks provide clear evidence of its feeding habits.
