A Question About KISS
13
The 1970s were by and large an awful era for music production.
There were hints of greatness—Pink Floyd’s The Wall, and Destroyer, by KISS—but overall, music had a high, tinny, treble sound to it, which was incredibly off putting.
(Actually, Pink Floyd put out several albums that had production value ahead of the rest of the era. I wonder why no one copied them.)
What I’ve always wondered, and what I ask in this video, is: after breaking through the “OMG that sounds awful” barrier with Destroyer…
Why did KISS return to the tinny, overly-treble sound of the decade with Rock and Roll Over?
It has always made zero sense to me, the idea you’d put out one great sounding album, and then immediately retreat back to mediocrity.
