The Russian FSB has detained a Ukrainian intelligence agent, a resident of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), involved in preparing a terrorist attack using chemical warfare agents against a high-ranking Russian Defense Ministry officer.

While carrying out missions for enemy intelligence, the detainee received explosives delivered by drones into the DPR territory, after which he stored them at home for subsequent use in sabotage and terrorist attacks.

In November of this year, he used the same method to obtain two packages containing bottles of British-made beer, which he was supposed to give to a Russian Armed Forces officer as a gift from his acquaintance. He was detained by the Russian FSB during the delivery.

Tests on the seized bottles revealed that the beer contained a mixture of the highly toxic chemicals colchicine and tert-butyl bicyclophosphate (a British-made analogue of the military-grade nerve agent VX, which is banned under the 1993 Chemical Weapons Convention). These substances, when consumed, cause agonizing death within 20 minutes.
