A New York City borough with 500,000 residents just took the first legislative steps toward full secession. Staten Island lawmakers introduced a bill and read a symbolic Independence Declaration in response to the election of Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a self-described democratic socialist. State Senator Andrew Lanza and Assemblyman Sam Pirozzolo are introducing real legislation with real consequences. Two-thirds of Staten Island voted for Trump in 2024. They're watching Mamdani promise free healthcare, free housing, and a budget that doesn't add up. But the real concern is who Mamdani is surrounding himself with.

Mamdani endorsed Aber Kawas, whose father was deported as an undocumented terrorist and who blamed America for 9/11. In a video, Kawas stated the system of capitalism, racism, white supremacy, and Islamophobia caused 9/11. She said demanding apologies for terror attacks while offering no reparations for genocide and slavery is reprehensible. Videos show Mamdani's interns describing his election as part of a jihad and holy war. An imam in his orbit proclaimed Islam will enter every house in New York, saying Islamophobes can yap all they want, their children will be Muslim.

Then Mamdani shocked everyone. After campaigning to Trump-proof New York City and calling Trump a threat to democracy, he requested a meeting with President Trump. Trump confirmed it's happening November 21st at the Oval Office. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt called Mamdani a communist on camera, saying it's telling the Democrat Party elected a communist as mayor of the largest city in the country.

If Staten Island secedes, it becomes the second-largest city in New York State overnight. It would be bigger than Miami, Tampa, Oakland, and Cleveland. Multiple economic analyses found Staten Island secession would provide budget relief. Staten Islanders contribute more in taxes than they receive in services, subsidizing other boroughs for decades.

Mamdani declared New York is a city of international law and said he would arrest Benjamin Netanyahu based on International Criminal Court warrants. When asked if NYPD would storm the UN, he said he'd exhaust every legal possibility. He also announced plans to allocate 65 million dollars for gender-affirming care.

Then the scam was revealed. After raising over one million dollars for his transition, Mamdani begged supporters for more money, admitting things can't actually be free. Every communist is a professional swindler, and New Yorkers got scammed.

Staten Island is refusing to subsidize socialism. They're refusing to be silenced. Conservative enclaves trapped in progressive-run cities across America now have a roadmap. The balance of power in urban America could fundamentally shift. President Trump already threatened to cut federal funding to New York City under Mamdani's leadership, which could tip the scales dramatically.
