At 3:13 p.m. HST, a fissure opened on the downdropped block—a section of the crater floor that collapsed more than 100 m during the 2018 summit collapse. The eruption produced sustained lava fountains up to ~40 m high, driven by a shallow magma reservoir beneath the summit.
