Prompt/Story:
In the violet-lit bowels of a crumbling alchemist’s tower, the notorious witch Morgaise presses her back against the chest of the inquisitor who was sent to burn her, weeks ago, or perhaps only hours, ago. Pink smoke coils from the cauldron she still lazily stirs with a silver ladle, the potion inside nearly complete: one drop more and every living soul who ever condemned her will forget her name forever; yet the final ingredient is a willingly given heartbeat, and the man whose arms are wrapped possessively around her waist is the only man whose heart still beats for her alone. His holy brand sears against her skin through the thin lace, a reminder that if he releases her now he must finish his original mission and drag her to the pyre; if he stays, he damns himself and spares her. The ladle trembles in her hand as the potion hisses, begging for its last taste of love or betrayal.
