Turkey Triage! Geraldine Got Attacked by Something!

Pray for Geraldine, that she pulls through. I know it looks bad, but poultry are surprisingly resilient. I’ve had far more seriously injured poultry make it and live long healthy lives. My main concern is Geraldine was out in the rainy cold all day like this. I don’t know when it happened, but sometime between last night and this afternoon. I didn’t see her for breakfast, Tom (her male turkey companion) seemed to be looking for her, and she wasn’t at the barn this afternoon. Glad the dogs and I scoured the pastures to find her!

I’m not sure WHAT got ahold of her, if I had to guess something slow and not very strong. Like a possum or ringtail likely. A raccoon probably would have unalived poor Geraldine. I’m sure it wasn’t my livestock dogs, they do not bother any of the poultry around here, and make a wide loop around the turkeys.
