Cheap Applause, A Comedian Trick

If you see a comedian, and he says a phrase like these—“I just quit drinking,” “I’m this many days sober,” “just had a baby…”—don’t take it at face value.

More often than not, the comedian is looking to elicit a positive response.

Sometimes they’re bombing, and looking to win the audience back; sometimes they just need an ego boost.

You don’t have to buy into such silliness.

Demand better of your performers.
