Sacrificial Giving – Ravi Chandran

John 3:16 states, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” While this is a very familiar verse to many, it is easy to overlook 4 crucial words in it, “one and only Son”. This speaks of God “sacrificing” the only Son He has. A similarity in Scripture can be seen when God required Abraham to sacrifice “Isaac” though Isaac was not the only son Abraham had. In God’s scenario, He loved mankind so much that He literally gave His own life to redeem those who believe.
Sacrificial giving is exceptional and outstanding. It is the highest form of giving. Nothing compares to it. Jesus stated it thus in John 15:13, "Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” While Christmas is approaching soon and we get into the festive mood, let us all remember that Jesus literally paid a price for our love, joy and peace.
