ONI Engineering: Build the Natural Gas Power Grid (Step-by-Step Compliance)
Introduction to Natural Gas Power [00:00]
Explaining how natural gas vents can provide free fuel for electricity.
Natural gas is the next step up from coal generators.
Analyzing the Geyser [00:33]
Identifying the geyser's temperature (around 29.5°C when dormant) and the need for a duplicant with the Field Research skill to analyze it.
Note on Duplicant Morale and Job Requirements [00:59].
Building the Heat Shield [02:06]
Creating a heat shield using Insulated Tile and highly thermal-resistant materials like Abyssalite.
Importance of mining out a decent-sized area to store the gas (each tile holds 2,000 kg of gas).
Material recommendations to prevent melting, suggesting Gold Amalgam for equipment and piping due to its high heat resistance.
Ventilation and Pumping Setup [03:15]
Setting up two gas pumps to ensure full throughput (1,000 g total) to prevent backlogging.
Storing the pumped gas in Natural Gas Reservoirs [03:38].
Gas Filtering for Compliance [03:45]
Utilizing a Gas Filter to separate the desired natural gas (sent to reservoirs) from unwanted gases like Carbon Dioxide or Oxygen (sent to a vent/expelled).
The Electrical Automation System [04:33]
Connecting generators and Smart Batteries with an Automation Wire.
Setting the batteries to kick on generators only when the charge drops below a threshold (e.g., 15%) to prevent resource waste.
Why Smart Batteries are superior to Large Batteries (low drain rate) [05:08].
Finalizing the Geyser Chamber [05:42]
Reviewing the need for a full thermal shield expansion.
Discussing how the heat from the gas will be stored in the tanks, leading to the need for a separate Cooling System later on [06:10].
Byproducts: Carbon Dioxide Elimination [07:34]
How burned natural gas produces Carbon Dioxide.
Funneling CO2 into a self-sustaining system using a Carbon Skimmer and Water Sieve to eliminate CO2 and generate usable Polluted Dirt.
Byproducts: Polluted Water Reuse [08:24]
The second byproduct is clean Polluted Water (no germs).
Pumping this water to feed plants, using a Liquid Valve set to a low rate to prevent overflow.
Geyser Cycle Information [10:06]
Current geyser is active for 70 cycles and will go dormant after that.
Explaining that it will erupt again in approximately 133 cycles.
