What Does it Mean to Bless Israel?

Genesis 12:3 states, "I will bless those who bless you,
And I will curse him who curses you;
And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

What does it mean to bless Israel? Why bless Israel? Does it mean we should agree with everything the Israeli government does? Is Israel today the Israel of the Bible?
