Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (also known as Enteroviral Encephalomyelitis) M.E. is caused by an "acute onset" direct infection of the brain and spinal cord by an "Enterovirus".

Post-viral Fatigue Syndromes are caused by a variety of viral infections, and as the name suggests it's primary correlation is FATIGUE after a viral infection. Often "immune-mediated illnesses" and "miscellaneous" in variety.

Infectious Disease Doctor Melvin Ramsay indicated M.E. and PVFS are separate entities on the front cover of the (second edition) of his book "Myalgic Encephalomyelitis and Postviral Fatigue States - The saga of The Royal Free disease" in 1988.
