On December 20, 2020, Kīlauea’s summit erupted at 9:30 PM HST. Lava burst from three fissure vents inside Halemaʻumaʻu crater, instantly boiling away the water lake and feeding a new lava lake. The footage shows the eruption and lava lake formation, not the water lake itself.
