They said the ship lay off the coast of Osaka, not far from the Burnt Village of Nakajima and the broken stone of the Kojo Ruins. When I finally found it, my breath left me—not from fear, but from the scale of what men had built to hide their sins. The hull towered above the fields like a fallen mountain, and its decks crawled with more guards than any village could spare. This was no simple raid. This was a floating city of thieves and arrogance.

I waited, watching the rhythm of their patrols, learning the language of their footsteps and the length of their boredom. Information is always the first blade in a shinobi’s hand. With patience I climbed the ship’s flank, the rope biting into my palms as I slipped past lanterns and sleeping sentries. A guard turned his back—lucky, or perhaps the sea had already taken his courage—and I ended him without a sound. From above I dropped on two more and the world below folded into silence. One by one their tired bodies met my shadow.

Inside, the ship smelled of oil and greed. Chests of coin and dull trinkets glittered, but the true prize waited deeper—an ornate case tucked beneath the captain’s tapestry. When I opened it, the air changed. Bloodshade. The name was carved into the guard of the blade and then into my mind. One edge sang like a wind cutting the sky—thin, true, made to part air itself. The other was a cruel, jagged maw, meant to rend flesh and spirit. Together they promised a violence that would not be easily mended.

I took only what would strengthen our cause. The lesser arms I left for others to find; Bloodshade I kept. Its weight at my side is a new calculus to carry. I have what I came for, but the path is unchanged: find those who took my father, break the men who bleed this land, and try to believe each strike is for something greater than my own shadow.
