Gameplay Part 1

His vengeance against the Gods of Olympus years behind him, Kratos now lives as a man in the realm of Norse Gods and monsters. It is in this harsh, unforgiving world that he must fight to survive… and teach his son to do the same.

Kratos is a father again. As mentor and protector to Atreus, a son determined to earn his respect, he is forced to deal with and control the rage that has long defined him while out in a very dangerous world with his son.

From the marble and columns of ornate Olympus to the gritty forests, mountains and caves of pre-Viking Norse lore, this is a distinctly new realm with its own pantheon of creatures, monsters and gods.

In this playthrough we cover:

Chapter 1 - The Marked Trees:

Kratos begins his journey by cutting down the marked trees chosen by Faye for her own funeral pyre, establishing the emotional weight between him and Atreus. After lighting the pyre, Kratos tests Atreus’s readiness by sending him on a hunt, only to discover the boy’s lack of control and impatience. Their hunt is interrupted when a massive Draugr attack forces Kratos to reveal more of his strength than he intended. The chapter culminates in the arrival of The Stranger, leading to the iconic brawl that tears through Kratos’s home and sets them on their path to fulfill Faye’s last wish.

Chapter 2 - Path to the Mountain (Part 1):

Kratos and Atreus leave the Wildwoods and push into unfamiliar territory, fighting Draugr, solving puzzles, and dealing with Atreus’s shaky control in early combat. Their climb toward the foothills leads to the ruins near the temple bridge, where Atreus accidentally awakens Brenna Daudi, triggering the chapter’s first major boss fight. Afterward, they track a wounded boar into the forest and meet the Witch of the Woods (Freya), who heals the creature and guides them through her mystic sanctuary with unsettling knowledge of the realms and of Kratos himself. Emerging at the Lake of Nine, they awaken Jörmungandr, whose appearance reshapes the landscape before they row ashore and reach Brok’s shop, marking their first real step into the wider world.
