The girl plummeted through the sky, still strapped to her seat. Miraculously, the row of seats acted as an improvised parachute, and the dense Amazon rainforest vegetation cushioned her final impact. She woke up the next day in the jungle with a broken collarbone, deep wounds, and a concussion.

But she was alive. And completely alone.

For 11 days she walked through the densest and most dangerous Amazon rainforest in the world. Her salvation was knowledge: her parents were biologists working in the forest, and she had grown up learning to recognize poisonous plants, dangerous animals, and jungle survival techniques.
