“Christianity played a decisive role in the ethical ennoblement of the pagan-feudal nobility into the Christian knightly nobility.” → Here he explicitly credits Christianity with having ethically improved the old pagan Germanic and feudal nobility by transforming it into a chivalric, Christian nobility. He sees this historical process positively.
“Christianity saved the pagan world from brutality and barbarism. It tamed the feudal warrior into a knight, the robber baron into a nobleman.” → Again, Christianity is portrayed as a civilizing, humanizing force that elevated European ethics.
3. On the future spiritual orientation:
He predicts that the future European elite will be neither purely Jewish nor purely Christian in the old dogmatic sense, but rather a new synthesis of ethical universalism that takes the best from both Judaism (ethical rigor) and Christianity (love, compassion). He calls this a “new heroism” that combines Jewish ethical intensity with Christian charity. Coudenhove-Kalergi speaks positively of Christianity’s historical role in civilizing and ethically elevating European (especially Germanic) nobility.
