CS #170. Johnny Apollo

is a 1940 film noir crime drama directed by Henry Hathaway, starring Tyrone Power and Dorothy Lamour. It tells the story of a young man from a respectable background who enters the criminal underworld to help his imprisoned father.
Plot Summary
Bob Cain (Tyrone Power), a recent college graduate, finds himself unable to secure legitimate employment due to the notoriety surrounding his father, a jailed Wall Street broker convicted of embezzlement (played by Edward Arnold). After his father's old, legitimate associates turn him away, Bob becomes disillusioned and resorts to a life of crime to raise money for a potential release.
He changes his name to Johnny Apollo and joins a gang led by mobster Mickey Dwyer (Lloyd Nolan). His life as a criminal is further complicated when he falls in love with Dwyer's girlfriend, the nightclub singer Lucky Dubarry (Dorothy Lamour). The story follows his descent into the criminal world, the relationship dynamics, and ultimately his experiences with his father while both are in prison.
