The ANC Just Admitted BEE Failed... Sort Of!

South Africa’s Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) policy is facing its biggest challenge in decades — and the ANC is finally being forced to admit that it may not be working. In this video, we break down the dramatic shift happening in 2025 as public opinion, polling data, and political pressure push the ruling party into reconsidering its long-protected policy.

We explore the DA’s proposed alternative — Poor Economic Empowerment (PEE) — and why it represents a fundamental break from race-based policy toward poverty-based policy. We also look at the ANC’s internal contradictions, from Fikile Mbalula’s hardline stance to Parks Tau’s admission that BEE needs a full review.

Using multiple surveys (Social Research Foundation, Institute for Race Relations) we reveal how every major racial group and nearly every political party now supports merit-based hiring, merit-based tenders, and economic policy that prioritizes job creation rather than racial quotas.
