Riding with The Original Grey Beard Biker™ - The Devil’s Triangle

When bikers think of riding in Tennessee, they most often think of taking a trip to The Great Smoky Mountains. And yes, there are wonderful roads over there. The one everyone seems to know about, is The Tail of the Dragon. 🐉 And while that is a good road, with lots of curves, it is not the most challenging road in Tennessee - that would be The Devil’s Triangle. 👺 This route is located not far from Oak Ridge, Tennessee on the Cumberland Plateau - or the Cumberland Mountains. This route is a beast - and it is shaped like a triangle. The switchbacks on this will cause your ass to pucker - they are the tightest I’ve ridden anywhere. Between the two north/south legs is a valley. When you ride this, you will be on the heights above said valley. The sheer cliffs are breathtaking and whatever you do, don’t go into a curve HOT and go through it. Because you will likely never be found. The first time you ride this, ride it counterclockwise. It is far easier to negotiate the tight switchbacks from this direction, as you will be going downhill on the outside of the curves.
