State DMV's Collecting Millions by Selling Drivers’ Data! Car industry expert, Lauren Fix, offers recommendations for the average driver.

In 1994, a U.S. federal law was enacted called the Driver's Privacy Protection Act, or DPPA. The law is a set of consumer protections for all of the personal information that each state's Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) collects and stores on individual drivers. Yet under what is called the “permissible use” clause, state DMVs are selling much of this collected data—and making tens of millions of dollars in the process.

NTD discussed the situation with Lauren Fix, an automotive industry expert from Car Coach Reports.
