CS #178 Fourteen Hours
is a 1951 American film noir crime drama starring Paul Douglas as a police officer attempting to talk a young, despondent man down from a hotel window ledge. The film, directed by Henry Hathaway, is based on a true story from 1938.
Plot and Paul Douglas's Role
The film centers around Paul Douglas's character, traffic policeman Charlie Dunnigan, who is the first on the scene when Robert Cosick (Richard Basehart) is spotted on the 15th-floor ledge of a Manhattan hotel. Over the course of 14 hours, Dunnigan, who is not a trained negotiator, develops a compassionate rapport with the troubled young man and becomes the only person Robert trusts.
