As families come together for our yearly tradition of family, food, fellowship, and friendship one thing always stands clear, music melds it all together. From the song being played through the speakers on the way to Grandma and Grandpa’s house for a family gathering or to the single servicemember in the barracks having a feast with their buddies in the dayroom one thing is clear. No matter where Americans are. Thanksgiving Dinner is being served. A deep tradition in Americana that we hope for the rest of eternity doesn’t die. Much love to our ancestors who set upon Plymouth Rock and made peace with the Wampanoag tribe and sat down to celebrate their unity Autumn of 1621. What you won’t read in a modern-day school textbook, kids, so here’s a little history lesson for all of you young metalhead out there. George Washington issued the first presidential proclamation for a National Day of Thanksgiving, to be observed on Thursday, November 26, 1789. Subsequent presidents sometimes issued similar one-time proclamations, but it was not annual or fixed holiday until a joint resolution of Congress, signed by FDR on December 26, 1941, permanently established Thanksgiving as a federal holiday on the fourth Thursday in November into American culture. The more you know, yeah?

And with that, I can still remember as a kid the music, man! Name the genre, it was played on the record player during our winter Thanksgivings in Minnesota. I don’t remember a time growing up ever having a brown Thanksgiving. When the dinner was over, the adults kicked us kids to go and do whatever we wanted to. And we cranked the bands we loved through those speakers at parties in the basement of a buddy’s house. Just rockin out and having a blast! And when I joined the Army and really understood why we cherish it. When you’re deployed and that chow call bell is rung, you know the Mess Daddy is making one helluva meal. No matter where were; be it in the desert, deployed to some foreign land that wants to take our head off, Thanksgiving Dinner was there to remind us of a bittersweet thing called home. The one thing we always had though was the music. Cranked to 11 and beers flowing out of the fridge. Mosh pits in the hallways, dayrooms, in the quad, and in the vehicles we drove to metal clubs or shows to finish off the day! This show brings that same fun and intensity of life flowing through our veins that we felt at that time with a bit of every musical era we grew up with. We hope you dig this and play it at your party as a soundtrack of your youth and how much you cherished it. To you kids today, we hope this music is a cherished memory you can share with your grandkids as we do.
