Driver in Utah Escapes Seconds Before Train Destroys His SUV

A driver in Layton, Utah, was involved in a dramatic scene captured by security cameras when he managed to jump out of his SUV just seconds before a FrontRunner train slammed into it. The incident has gone viral again despite having occurred on February 4, 2025, after a pickup truck rear-ended the SUV and pushed it directly onto the train tracks.

The vehicle became trapped between the crossing gates as the warning lights signaled the train’s imminent arrival. The driver tried to reverse but struck the barrier, and realizing he could not escape, he decided to abandon the vehicle and run. Seconds later, the train collided with the SUV, completely destroying it.

Footage released by the Utah Transit Authority and widely shared on social media shows the exact moment the train operator reacts in disbelief just before the crash. Despite the violent impact, the driver emerged unharmed. The train, however, sustained significant damage exceeding $100,000.

Authorities reminded motorists of the importance of remaining calm in emergency situations and avoiding any attempt to cross the tracks once the warning signals have been activated.
