This Flying “Scooter” Doesn’t Need a Pilot License

The Zapata AirScooter is a hybrid-electric, single-seat VTOL aircraft designed to make personal flight simple and accessible. The compact design allows riders to take off vertically using joystick controls and full fly-by-wire assistance, staying under FAA ultralight rules in the United States meaning no pilot license required.

The hybrid power system combines electric motors with a lightweight fuel engine for extended endurance. Zapata claims the AirScooter can reach speeds up to 62 mph with around 2 hours of cruising time. With a payload capacity of 260 lbs, the AirScooter is built for practical personal flight, recreation, and short-range air mobility.

Zapata also plans to open AirScooter flight centers, allowing anyone to learn how to fly the aircraft safely and experience VTOL flight firsthand.
