We fought, but not to destroy—only to awaken what little remained of the boy Yaya once guided. When the battle ended, he collapsed, not from wounds, but from the weight of what he had done. Yaya came to him then, her presence soft and steady. No judgment. Only sorrow. In that moment, something between them mended—not fully, but enough. The bond they once shared flickered back to life like a candle shielded from the wind.

When it was over, I asked Yaya to walk this path with me—to help me restore what the Onryo have taken. Her answer was kind, but firm. “I cannot betray what I believe,” she said. “My path is peace, not vengeance.” I wanted to argue, but I couldn’t. She was right. Her conviction was a strength I no longer possessed. I bowed to her, not in defeat, but in gratitude—for reminding me what it means to stand for something pure.

As I left her behind, the road ahead felt longer, lonelier. Yet, somewhere deep within, I carried the hope that our paths would cross again—when swords were no longer needed, and peace was not a dream, but a truth. Until then, I walk the shadows, holding onto the faint light she left in me.
