The Battle Against Rome in Germania PART 1

Released in 2009 as part of the German docudrama series Die Deutschen, this episode (also known internationally as Arminius – Rebell gegen Rom) reconstructs the life of Germanic chieftain Arminius and the events leading to the catastrophic Roman defeat in the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest in 9 AD. Combining dramatic reenactments with expert commentary from historians and archaeologists, it follows Arminius’ youth as a Roman hostage, his training as an auxiliary officer, his secret return to Germania, and his unification of warring tribes against three legions under Publius Quinctilius Varus, culminating in the ambush that annihilated roughly 15,000–20,000 Roman soldiers and halted Roman expansion east of the Rhine.
