Released in 2009 as the concluding part of the German docudrama Arminius – Rebell gegen Rom, this episode covers the aftermath of the 9 AD Teutoburg Forest victory and the subsequent Roman campaigns to avenge the loss of three legions. It follows Germanic leader Arminius’ attempts to maintain tribal unity against Roman counteroffensives led by Germanicus between 14–16 AD, including the brutal battles along the Weser River and the rediscovery of the Teutoburg battlefield with its bleached bones and lost eagles. Through dramatic reenactments and archaeological evidence from Kalkriese, the film culminates in Arminius’ final victory at the Angrivarian Wall, the recovery of two legionary eagles, and his eventual assassination in 21 AD by his own kinsmen, marking the permanent Roman withdrawal east of the Rhine.
