Assassin’s Creed Shadows - A Message from Mitsuhide - Trust But Verify

I returned to the hideout with Bloodshade warm at my side and the taste of battle still in my mouth. Tomiko met me in the low light, and I told her plainly: Wade Koretake is dead and Wakasa, the Woman with the Golden Teppo, has also fallen. She nodded as if tallying a ledger—this was progress, a small bright thread in a tapestry stitched with so much blood. Still, the work is unfinished. There are names left on the list and faces that will not sleep until they are gone.

Our spies brought a message meant for a commander, or so it seemed—but it was not. It was addressed to me. Sent by Lord Mitsuhide himself. The paper smelled of careful design and danger. Every part of it screamed “trap,” and yet some smaller, quieter part of me wondered if it was instead a lifeline to the heart of Lord Nobunaga’s court. Lord Mitsuhide—Nobunaga’s chief daimyo—reaching across the gulf to touch my blade with words. It is impossible to trust such kindness without first testing it. My father’s voice rose in my memory: Trust, but verify. Leave nothing to chance.

Katano calls to me again—the place where I took the first Onryo and where I lost my father. The memory is a blade that twists inside me. I must approach this like all things a shinobi learns: with information and patience, not impulse. If this is a trap, I will walk into it prepared. If it is a path to the heart of the power that stole so much from these lands, I will take it. Either way, I will not let fury blind me; I will let it sharpen my resolve while restraint guides my hand.

There is a path forward, but it requires silence, discipline, and cold verification. I will speak with Lord Mitsuhide, but only after I have seen the shape of his offer with my own eyes. For now, I meditate, steady my breath, and sharpen more than just my blade—sharpen my judgement.

One additional item. Jinjiro. He has never once said anything but be safe or come back. This time though, something about Katano made him step up. Try to stop me from going. There is much about his past I have yet to learn and I wonder if the loss he suffers was at the hands of those from Katano. I will speak to Jinjiro about this later, but for now, I must focus on the task at hand. I must focus on the meeting with Lord Mitsuhide and all possibilities and danger it could possess.
