His vengeance against the Gods of Olympus years behind him, Kratos now lives as a man in the realm of Norse Gods and monsters. It is in this harsh, unforgiving world that he must fight to survive… and teach his son to do the same.

Kratos is a father again. As mentor and protector to Atreus, a son determined to earn his respect, he is forced to deal with and control the rage that has long defined him while out in a very dangerous world with his son.

From the marble and columns of ornate Olympus to the gritty forests, mountains and caves of pre-Viking Norse lore, this is a distinctly new realm with its own pantheon of creatures, monsters and gods.

In this playthrough we cover:

Chapter 7 - The Magic Chisel:

Kratos, Atreus, and Mimir journey to Thamur’s Corpse, navigating blinding blizzards and frozen enemies as they search for the Magic Chisel, the key to opening Jötunheim’s hidden gate. They fight through waves of Hel-Walkers and reavers while maneuvering across the colossal stonemason’s body, using environmental puzzles and frozen mechanisms to reach the chisel tip lodged in the ice. Along the way, Atreus’s attitude sharpens, his confidence swelling after earlier victories and clashing with Kratos’s attempts to keep him focused. When they finally reach the chisel, Magni and Modi ambush them, sparking a brutal boss battle across the frozen lake that showcases the brothers’ Lightning and Thunder powers. Kratos kills Magni, and Modi flees in fear, leaving Atreus spiraling emotionally — a shift that Mimir warns could have consequences far greater than the boy realizes.

Chapter 8 - Behind the Lock:

Armed with the Magic Chisel, Kratos and Atreus return to Tyr’s Temple to unlock new chambers and solve a series of massive mechanical puzzles tied to the realm bridge. As they work, Modi ambushes them in a desperate attempt to avenge his brother, but Kratos easily overpowers him — triggering Atreus’s worsening sickness and emotional spiral. The group presses on, manipulating the temple’s rotating mechanisms and runic locks until they finally align the symbols needed to open the entrance to Jötunheim. Just as victory feels close, Atreus collapses, bringing their progress to an abrupt halt.

Chapter 9 - The Sickness (Part 1):

Atreus’s mysterious illness rapidly worsens, leaving him barely conscious as Kratos carries him out of the temple. Desperate and out of options, Kratos rushes to the Witch’s Cave and boards Freya’s boat to return to her home, hoping she can save the boy.
