In October 2020, a fierce fire broke out in an apartment building in Grenoble, France. Trapped on the fourth floor with no escape route, a brave 10-year-old boy first dropped his 3-year-old brother roughly 40 feet (12 meters) out the window before jumping himself, sliding down the façade to reduce speed.

Below, six quick-thinking bystanders and residents formed an impromptu human safety net and caught both children. The boys survived with only smoke inhalation and minor injuries, while two of the rescuers suffered broken arms from the impact.

This extraordinary moment of spontaneous heroism, originally reported by Le Dauphiné Libéré and international media, continues to inspire millions as proof that ordinary people can become real-life heroes in seconds.

Faith in humanity: restored.
