The wind carried the weight of memory as I approached the castle, each step whispering of the day my father’s blood stained these stones. But vengeance has its own rhythm, and tonight, I followed it carefully. I moved through the outer walls like a shadow born of regret and purpose. Guards fell silently where they stood; trinkets, weapons, and the mon they carried were gathered, not for greed, but as payment to the cause. Every motion was deliberate. Every breath, measured.

I studied them as I always do—their rotations, their laziness, the soft edges of their confidence. Patience, the first lesson of every shinobi. I listened to their chatter about the castle’s new visitors, the unease in their voices when they spoke the name “Mitsuhide.” Even they did not know what this meeting meant. Was he ally or adversary? Friend or trap? I could not yet tell.

I left nothing to chance. My path in was quiet, but my path out was already written. If Mitsuhide sought to betray me, I would vanish before his blade left its sheath. Still, a part of me—perhaps the same foolish spark my father once carried—hoped this meeting was not born of deceit, but of purpose. Perhaps this daimyo of Nobunaga’s court wished for something more than blood.

Soon, I will stand before him and learn the truth. For now, I move unseen through Katano, carving a silent road toward the man who may hold the key to either my ruin or my redemption.
