Hitler’s 1 April 1939 speech at the launch of the battleship Tirpitz was a short but defiant wartime-tone address. He used the ceremony to signal Germany’s military strength and declare that Germany would not be intimidated or restrained by foreign powers — especially Britain, which had just guaranteed Poland’s independence the day before.

He accused hostile nations of trying to surround and pressure Germany and made clear that the Germany of 1939 would not “tolerate” interference in its affairs. The speech carried a threatening tone, implying that Germany was ready for confrontation and prepared to defend its interests with force if necessary.
