The Democrat Governor of Colorado - Jared Polis - refuses to release Tina Peters, even after President Donad Trump’s repeated demands
Peters is now being held in Solitary confinement (known as "the hole" or special housing unit) at La Vista Correctional Facility in Pueblo, Colorado. She was sentenced to 9 years in 2024 over election concerns.

Gov. Polis is refusing to follow the directives of President Trump as The Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC), supported by Attorney General Phil Weiser and Mesa County District Attorney Dan Rubinstein are telling Polis to reject the federal transfer request - calling it 'an attempt to evade state justice.'
In May
Trump directed the DOJ to "take all necessary action" to free her, calling her an "innocent Political Prisoner" and "hostage" held by Democrats for exposing election fraud.
August
Trump renewed the call labeling her a "brave and innocent Patriot" tortured by "Crooked Colorado politicians," demanding immediate release and threatening "very harsh measures."
November
At a White House event, Trump expressed frustration, stating he had demanded her release four times and questioned DOJ inaction on her case.

So…how did she ended up in solitary confinement:

Peters, a Gold Star mother with no prior record, was confronted in the prison halls by a teacher who had been telling inmates she would "never leave prison" because the state refuses to follow the directives of the Commander in Chief.

The teacher and a group of inmates then started to harass Peters.

Peters filed a formal grievance that morning against the teacher for misconduct.

She was immediately taken to medical for a strip search, a physical exam, mental health screening, and hours of waiting.

Officials then tossed her into solitary for potentially 17 days.

She is in a cell without any windows, and doesn't have any human contact.

She's allowed out of her cell for 1-2 hours a day and does not have access to the internet, with all calls from family, and attorneys blocked unless the pod is locked down.

Officials claim it's "not punishment," but supporters say its retaliation to silence her.

This is all happening while she is struggling with her health (fibromyalgia, history of cancer) and freezing cell temps (reported as low as 40°F at night), on the eve of her 97-year-old mother's birthday.
Peters, the former Mesa County Clerk, said she was jailed for trying to safeguard election integrity by exposing potential vulnerabilities in Dominion voting machines after the 2020 election.

She allowed a cybersecurity expert to access the system during a routine software update using a borrowed credential, capturing "before and after" images of the hard drives to prove any tampering or data deletion.

She was convicted for "tampering" and sentenced to 9-years.

The judge slammed her for "preaching lies" about election fraud—and chuckled right before he handed down the sentence.
