Vladimir Putin called attacks on tankers in the Black Sea piracy

The Russian president called Ukraine's actions piracy and threatened retaliatory measures against the courts of those countries that help it in this.

Ukrainian attacks on tankers in the Black Sea are piracy, Russian President Vladimir Putin said, answering questions from the media after speaking at the VTB investment forum “Russia Calling!” He threatened retaliatory measures against the courts of those countries that help Kyiv in this.

“If this continues, we will consider the possibility of retaliatory measures against the courts of those countries that help Ukraine carry out these pirate operations,” the head of state said.

In addition, he noted, Russia, in response to the attacks, will expand attacks on Ukrainian ports and on ships entering them. The most radical way, according to Putin, is to cut off Ukraine from the sea.

“If attacks on tankers continue, we will consider the possibility of retaliatory measures against ships of countries helping Ukraine. I hope that Kyiv and those who stand behind it will think about whether it is worth continuing attacks on ships in the Black Sea,” the president said.

Putin also said that in response to piracy from Ukraine, Russia will expand attacks on Ukrainian ports and ships that enter them.

Ukrainian armed forces have tried to strike our seaports before. We answered them - we did not start these operations with the same blows. I assure you that they are much more effective and powerful. And this primarily concerned those vessels, ships on which military property, military equipment and ammunition were delivered to Ukraine. And we got exactly where we wanted, as evidenced by the secondary explosions that we observed with the help of aerial reconnaissance.

But what the Ukrainian armed forces are doing now is piracy.

As for the response measures. Firstly, we will expand the range of our attacks on port facilities and on ships, on vessels that enter Ukrainian ports.

Secondly, if this continues, we will consider the possibility - I'm not saying that we will do this - but we will consider the possibility of retaliatory measures against the courts of those countries that are helping Ukraine carry out these operations.

But the most radical way is to cut off Ukraine from the sea. Then it will be impossible for her to engage in piracy in principle. But this is all - as if on an increasing basis.

I hope that the Ukrainian military leadership, the political leadership, as well as those who stand behind them, will think about whether this practice is worth continuing.

Also, answering questions from journalists, Vladimir Putin warned Europe against starting a war with Russia. If it decides to do this, then a situation could very quickly arise when Moscow simply has no one to negotiate with, the Russian President emphasized.

On November 28, two tankers flying the Gambian flag, Kairos and Virat, were attacked in the Black Sea. After the first ship caught fire, Turkish coastal rescuers evacuated 25 people from it. There were 20 crew members on board the second tanker.

The Foreign Ministry condemned the attack, calling it a “terrorist act” and an attempt to derail international efforts to achieve peace. At the same time, CNN and Reuters, citing sources in the Security Service of Ukraine, reported that the attacks on the tankers were carried out by Ukrainian naval drones.

On the morning of December 2, the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs of Turkey reported an attack on the Midivolga 2 tanker, which was transporting sunflower oil from Russia to Georgia. The ship reached the port of the Turkish city of Sinop under its own power. Later, Rosmorrechflot clarified that the tanker was attacked by drones.
