New York City has an inflation problem, caused by the Democrat Party
The Democrats in New York City (that includes the creepy old trust funder Sam Seder #samseder #majorityreport who lives outside the city) complaining about inflation, also caused that inflation

NYC spending https://council.nyc.gov/budget/ https://www.ibo.nyc.gov/content/budget-and-finance-data https://www.ibo.nyc.gov/assets/ibo/downloads/pdf/fiscal-history/data-fiscal-history/agency-expenditures.xlsx
Now that Trump is in office, Democrats are suddenly concerned about the inflation that sank the USS Biden & the most vacuous Vice President since… well, since Joe Biden was Obongo’s VP.
The Democrats passed a green energy slush fund https://rumble.com/v6vjvof-democrats-admit-the-inflation-reduction-act-didnt-work.html & called it the Inflation Reduction Act, the most misnamed piece of legislation since The Employee Free Choice Act.
It failed miserably, of course. Democrats (see the preceding link for a lot of Democrat whining about inflation in 2025) spent a lot of time wringing their Vienna sausage fingers over inflation a month or two into Trump’s presidency.
Zohran Mamdummy, excuse me Zohran Mamdani has also spent a lot of time babbling about rising prices & he will wave his magic wand to make all the pain go away. [X1] Mamdani’s quest to lower prices will lower prices for some, will require a lot of taxpayer subsidies, will ultimately increase the backlog of maintenance at government-run apartments, reduce the stock of apartments & a lot of Obama “hopey, changey” platitudes.
The inflation problem in these United States & an even bigger problem in NYC is one brought on by government spending itself. I ran the numbers of federal spending
https://rumble.com/v6qiakw-lyin-brian-tyler-cohen-is-really-worried-about-medicaid-spending.html & it’s exploded like a bomb hitting Hiroshima. I will update those numbers at the end.
Let us take a gander at New York City spending, shall we? NYC has been ruled by Democrats for eons. But, but… they had some Republican Mayors, Rudy Giuliani & Democrat-turned-Republican-turned-Democrat Michael Bloomberg.
Sure, but the City Council has been in Democrat hands by massive margins for many decades. I realize Democrats have an aversion to basic civics, but everything has to go through the City Council, they hold the purse strings.
I was going to use the City Council site (and in later years, they make this easier to understand), but they’d have reports on Schedule A & B spending, which you could tally but there was also a Schedule C where the City doles out billions for non-profits & they did not tally this in the PDF.
I’m not 100% sure if it’s included in the entire budget expenditures en masse. I appreciate it when areas of spending are broken down by agency & sub-agency, but I also need a final tally for all spending, citywide.
If you would just put up a PDF or Excel for a finalized budget, that would be great. I compared https://council.nyc.gov/budget/wp-content/uploads/sites/54/2024/12/Fall-2024-November-Plan-Final-Merged.pdf (and the nice chart they had on p.4) w/ https://www.ibo.nyc.gov/assets/ibo/downloads/pdf/fiscal-history/data-fiscal-history/agency-expenditures.xlsx & they are off a bit in comparison. I went w/ the LATTER as it is part of NYC’s government & an independent budget office. They also make it much easier to navigate citywide spending & break it down into numerous categories.
When I tally this, I’m using “Total Citywide Expenditures, less Interfund Agreements.” Some may dispute this rightly by saying, “they’re actually spending more, they’re just moving some money around the same way the federal government does by selling assets to make it appear less.” True, but that’s what I’m going with, like it or not.
From FY 2000-2003, NYC collectively spent $163,307,092,108 & with a population of 32,209,071, that’s $5,070 in spending per capita. Unfortunately, that’s NOT adjusted for inflation.
From FY 2010-13, NYC spent ($266,123,644,757 & 33,190,865 population) $8,017.97 per capita. Just shy of 58% HIGHER than our 2000-03 base period.
From FY 2016-19 (just before the COVID plandemic hit) NYC spent $343,155,079,733 (population = 33,633,529), which works out to $10,202.76 per capita. More than twice the per capita spending from a scant 16 years prior.
From FY 2022-24, NYC spent ($327,074,887,631 spending & 25,225,139 population) $12,966.22 per capita, which is >27% HIGHER than 2016-19 & >155% HIGHER than the spending in our base period, just 22 years prior.
NYC’s inflation issues can be laid at the feet of the Democrat Party, NYC is flailing, but not for a lack of spending. The U.S. Congress also deserves some credit; federal spending has been out-of-control for many decades & it’s not getting any better.
https://www.ibo.nyc.gov/content/publications/education-spending-since-1990 Let’s look at NYC Department of Education funding, shall we? From FY 2000-03, per pupil expenditures were (adjusted for inflation, in 2024 dollars) averaged $20,456.43.
From FY 2010-13 per pupil expenditures were $27,976 – FY 2016-19 per pupil expenditures were $32,488.93 & FY 2022-24 per pupil expenditures were $36,528.57 on average for that time frame. 2022-24 was >78.5% HIGHER than 2000-2003, even after adjusting for inflation.
So, why are NYC’s government schools seeing students of color struggle so mightily?
https://www.ibo.nyc.gov/assets/ibo/downloads/pdf/fiscal-history/debt/debt-service.xlsx What about debt servicing expenditures in NYC? (TOTAL: Adjusted Debt Service Expense of Outstanding Debt as Defined by IBO) From FY 2000-2003, debt servicing was a cumulative $14,493,000,000 & with a population of 32,209,071 that’s $449.96 per capita.
FY 2010-13, debt servicing was ($21,351,000,000 spending & 33,190,865 population) $643.27 per capita.
FY 2016-19 debt servicing expenditures were ($27,490,000,000 spending & 33,633,529 population) $817.33 per capita.
FY 2022-24 debt servicing expenditures were ($23,287,000,000 spending & 25,225,139 population) $923.16 per capita, well beyond twice the amount in 2000-03 & 12.9% HIGHER than the 2016-19 amount.
Debt Servicing Expenditures were 8.87% of the entire NYC budget for FY 2000-2003 & it fell to 8.01% from FY 2016-19. That just means it was growing slower than the rest of the budget, not that the problem magically disappeared. From FY 2022-24, debt servicing expenditures were 7.11% of the entire NYC budget & that budget is massive.
You can certainly see NYC is on the road to perdition & Mamdani’s magic wand will not save it from its inflation issues. They act as if not enough spending has been going on, but the rank-and-file Democrat voter in America & NYC has never looked into this & never would. They take the Media Industrial Complex’s word for it; they’d probably believe it if they were told NYC education funding has been slashed. It has not, it has, like all of NYC spending, gone into orbit.
Mamdani has promised free this & free that, more efficient this & more efficient that, which will require a massive influx of taxpayer cash that is not there.
For those who say, “NYC contributes a lot to the federal government & they’re getting short-changed by red states.” Let’s assume that is true for a moment. So, wouldn’t it be better if federal personal income tax rates were lower & less money leaves NYC to be sucked up by Leviathan & redistributed to favored constituencies.
Basically, I’m asking you if we need a bit more Federalism & does NYC take care of NYC better than Leviathan? But the Progressives don’t want to change that, they want that as a talking point & it’s a phony talking point that “red states benefit from federal aid at the expense of blue states.” https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=1575181056051638&id=1400591836843895 https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=342991869205695&set=a.195735437264673 I should also mention quickly that the amount of federal dollars that are redistributed in the form of “transfer payments to individuals” has increased massively since the 1950s, as a % of the budget & in inflation adjusted dollars. https://rumble.com/v6satql-federal-spending-odds-and-ends-interest-paymentstransfer-payments-to-indivi.html Our government has become a giant ATM & it is not working.
Leviathan has an advantage over NYC & all the states; it can print money. We are headed for a disaster unless we curb a lot of this federal spending & in addition, hand a lot of programs over to the states. Let them manage it (means-tested entitlements for example), it will likely be more efficient.
You are going to see more people leave NYC & New York https://rumble.com/v66nig7-bipolar-divorcee-sam-seder-and-the-2030-census-shift.html state for jurisdictions that want to put violent people in prison, don’t want to treat business owners like they’re criminals, don’t want to strip you of your firearms, don’t want to defund the police & don’t want to let XY chromosome pedophiles in the same locker room w/ preteen girls.
Wrapping this up & pertaining to federal aid https://www.ibo.nyc.gov/assets/ibo/downloads/pdf/fiscal-history/data-fiscal-history/grants-aid.xlsx to NYC (Total Federal Categorical Aid): From FY 2000-03 it was $20,681,617,681, which was 12.66% of the entire NYC budget.
For FY 2010-13, Total Federal Categorical Aid was $30,865,528,021, which was 11.59% of all NYC spending.
For FY 2016-19, Total Federal Categorical Aid was $30,212,687,851, which was 8.8% of the entire NYC budget & for FY 2022-24, Total Federal Categorical Aid was $36,315,666,087, which was 11.1% of the entire NYC budget.
Keep in mind, NYC’s budget has grown in a mammoth fashion over the past quarter-century, it’s just the federal government aid wasn’t keeping up w/ the overall spending increases.
https://www.ibo.nyc.gov/assets/ibo/downloads/pdf/fiscal-history/data-fiscal-history/agency-expenditures.xlsx Let’s look at a few more things (wink wink). You’ll be glad to know that NYC now has a “Commission on Racial Equity.”
Pertaining to “Housing Preservation & Development”, it was $1,530,507,074 in FY 2000-03, which was 0.9% of the entire budget. FY 2010-13 it was $2,823,735,482, which works out to 1.06% of the entire NYC budget. FY 2016-19 it was $3,937,130,579, which is 1.14% of all NYC spending & in FY 2022-24 it was $4,364,732,700, which is 1.33% of all NYC spending. Again, NYC’s budget is gargantuan, they’re spending plenty on housing.
The “Department of Cultural Affairs” spent $492,184,797 in FY 2000-03 (0.301% % of all NYC spending), $573,711,662 in FY 2010-13 (0.215% of all NYC spending), $716,783,953 in FY 2016-19 (0.208%) & $869,456,301 in FY 2022-24 (0.265%).
Glad to see it’s gone down, relative to my base period, but how many potholes would that money have filled?
The “Department of Transportation” spent $1,719,713,210 in FY 2000-03 (1.05% of all NYC spending), $3,315,805,692 in FY 2010-13 (1.24% of all NYC spending), $3,799,963,778 in FY 2016-19 (1.107%), & $3,996,545,011 in FY 2022-24 (1.221%).
I’m all for Federalism kids & glad that NYC is spending money on transportation. In fact, that spending should be the domain of the Empire State & NYC alone, not federal taxpayers. Maybe NYC would have more money for subway maintenance, filling potholes & bus maintenance/making buses more efficient if they spent less on Cultural Affairs nonsense.
PS The Federal Fuel Tax should be suspended & all transportation duties should be moved from Leviathan to the individual states & their respective municipalities. I’m tired of Washington vacuuming up gobs of money, spindling, folding & mutilating it before dolling it out to certain constituencies.
One last thing & then we’ll finish: Total spending for “ADMINISTRATION FOR CHILDREN'S SERVICES,” “DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES”, “DEPARTMENT OF HOMELESS SERVICES” & “DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND MENTAL HYGIENE.” FY 2000-03 = $38,255,882,802 (23.42% of all NYC spending) – FY 2010-13 $56,050,663,650 (21.06% of all NYC spending) – FY 2016-19 $64,383,844,271 (18.76%) – FY 2022-24 – $60,142,914,515 (18.38%).
The Collectivist retard might say, “Uh duh, look at how it’s a smaller percentage of the budget in later years, NYC’s mentally ill & fat people are being neglected.” NYC’s budget has grown massively in the past quarter-century, those programs were growing too, just not as fast as the budget en masse.
Despite all that spending, the rate of diabetes in the Big Apple is staggeringly high. https://nycbehs.substack.com/p/data-spotlight-diabetes-lower-extremity https://www.health.ny.gov/statistics/diseases/conditions/diabetes/ https://www.nyc.gov/site/doh/about/press/pr2025/new-report-highlights-stark-diabetes-inequities-2025.page https://www.nyc.gov/assets/doh/downloads/pdf/epi/databrief146-diabetes-inequities.pdf These people are not starving, despite the constant whining about “fresh fruits & vegetables” & “food deserts.”
You can force fresh fruit & vegetables down their throat; you can have fruit stands on every corner & it will do nothing. Many of these people are sedentary, which is why their health is failing. https://www.cnn.com/2010/HEALTH/11/08/twinkie.diet.professor/index.html https://www.npr.org/2010/11/12/131286626/professor-s-weight-loss-secret-junk-food They consume way too many calories & are not doing anything to burn them. Sitting your fat ass on the couch & watching TV is not productive.
The data tells us that diabetes cases tend to be higher in minority neighborhoods, poorer neighborhoods & those who are not white (Asian, Black, Hispanic) tend to have higher rates. I guess the millionaire white folks in Manhattan are getting more salad, eh?
How many people who are starving in Sub-Saharan Africa have diabetes?
When I debunked Sam Seder on government schools, https://rumble.com/v52f3kv-creepy-old-man-sam-seder-hates-charter-schools-part-i.html https://rumble.com/v52fjnm-creepy-old-man-sam-seder-hates-charter-schools-part-ii.html https://rumble.com/v52fp43-creepy-old-man-sam-seder-hates-charter-schools-part-iii.html I didn’t cover New York City because it wasn’t one of the high murder rate areas.
I won’t get lengthy, but how come the gap between Whites & Asians versus Blacks & Hispanics persists in NYC (and statewide)? Is there some sort of Machiavellian conspiracy against students of color? How come the graduation rates can be north of 80%, yet almost half of students are not proficient in English Language Arts? https://data.nysed.gov/essa.php?instid=7889678368&year=2023&createreport=1&38ELA=1&gradrate=1 https://archive.ph/Srddx https://data.nysed.gov/archive.php?instid=7889678368 https://data.nysed.gov/essa.php?instid=7889678368&year=2021&createreport=1&38ELA=1&gradrate=1 https://archive.ph/GJOk8
These massive increases in spending for “education” in NYC seem to be failing “students of color” (especially) in NYC. Unless it’s done on purpose & the government education system isn’t there to educate, but to indoctrinate.
This closes my evaluation of NYC & their failures, which can be laid directly at the feet of the party running that city for eons. The Democrat Party. Period. Mr. Chairman, I Yield Back.
