4. Formula 1 introduced the Drag Reduction System, or DRS, in the 2011 season to boost overtaking and make races more thrilling. By reducing aerodynamic drag, it gives drivers a straight-line speed advantage of roughly 10 to 15 km/h when they are within one second of the car ahead in designated DRS zones. Drivers can use it freely in practice and qualifying, but its use is limited during races.
