There was Susanoo—the banished storm god of Japan.

Cast out from heaven for his violence and rebellion, Susanoo wandered into a land drowning in terror. There he found a family marked for extinction—each daughter devoured, one by one, by an ancient horror known as Yamata no Orochi: an eight-headed, eight-tailed serpent whose body coiled across mountains and rivers alike.

This was no simple monster.
