📖 Daily Devotional | Genesis 16–17 – When We Run Ahead of God
Grace Ministries USA
In these two powerful chapters we see one of the most relatable (and painful) stories in Scripture: Abram and Sarai trying to “help” God fulfill His promise. Hagar, Ishmael, impatience, and heartbreak—all because they took matters into their own hands instead of waiting on God’s perfect timing.
But Genesis 17 is where everything changes. God appears to Abram again, changes his name to Abraham (“father of a multitude”), and reminds him:
“I am God Almighty (El Shaddai); walk before Me and be blameless.”
The covenant is reaffirmed—not because of Abraham’s strength, but because of God’s faithfulness.
Today’s devotional will challenge and encourage you:
• Running ahead of God always brings struggle
• God’s promises never fail, even when we do
• When God changes your name, He changes your future
• Waiting on El Shaddai is never wasted time
🙏 Key verse:
“No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations.” (Genesis 17:5)
If you’ve ever grown weary in the waiting, this one’s for you. Drop “I’m still trusting” in the comments and let’s encourage each other!
