Ayurveda approaches Behçet’s disease as a complex autoimmune–inflammatory condition arising from deep imbalance in Tridosha, mainly Pitta and Vata, along with impaired Rakta Dhatu (blood tissue). The disease’s hallmark symptoms—recurrent oral and genital ulcers, eye inflammation, skin lesions, and joint pain—are viewed as signs of aggravated heat, toxicity, and disturbed immunity. Ayurvedic treatment focuses on cleansing, cooling, and stabilizing the body while strengthening natural defense mechanisms.

Therapy often begins with Shamana (palliative care) and Shodhana (detoxification) as required. Pitta-pacifying herbs such as Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia), Neem (Azadirachta indica), Manjistha (Rubia cordifolia), and Sariva (Hemidesmus indicus) are used to reduce inflammation and purify the blood. Yashtimadhu and Aloe vera help soothe mucosal ulcers, while Ashwagandha and Shatavari support immune balance and stress resilience. In certain cases, Panchakarma therapies like Virechana (therapeutic purgation) may be advised to eliminate accumulated toxins and calm aggravated Pitta.

Diet and lifestyle modifications are essential—cooling, anti-inflammatory foods, adequate hydration, avoidance of spicy and acidic items, and stress-reducing practices like meditation or gentle yoga help prevent flare-ups. While Ayurveda does not claim a cure, its holistic approach aims to reduce symptom severity, improve immunity, and enhance long-term quality of life.
