Bristol, CT - Police in Bristol responded to a fiery crash that left a utility pole blocking a street.

It happened on Washington Street near Garden Street on Thursday around 3:50 a.m.

“Upon arrival, Officers Coby Vaccarelli and Robert Baek found the roadway completely blocked by a downed utility pole and observed a vehicle on its side further down the road,” Bristol police reported.

Police said both officers quickly made their way to the overturned vehicle and discovered the driver was still inside. Flames came from the engine.

Vaccarelli and Baek broke the windshield to get the driver out.

“Officers Vaccarelli and Baek were then able to pull the operator through the windshield opening they had created,” police said. “They moved her to safety as Bristol fire personnel worked to contain the flames and make the scene safe.”

The driver was evaluated by medical personnel.

There were no serious injuries, police said.
