What is the Millennial Sabbath Theory?

In Leviticus 25 we study the land sabbath that the Lord called for Israel to give to the land every 7th year. This leads us into the theory known as the The Millennial Day Theory, (also known as the "Millennium Sabbath" or the "Millennium Sabbath Hypothesis"). In this theory human history here on earth is divided into 7,000 years, with the first 6,000 years representing the 6 days of creation (or work), followed by 1,000 years of sabbath rest, also known as the millennial kingdom where Jesus will rule for 1,000 years from Jerusalem. This is just a theory, but here are the passages to back it up:

Gen 2.2-3 establishes a 7th day, sabbath rest.
Lev 25 we see a call for a 7th year sabbath rest of the land.
Psa 90.4 & 2 Pet 3.8 establish that to the Lord a day is like a thousand days and a thousand days is like a day.
Rev 20.1-6 speaks of Christ ruling and reigning for 1,000 years.

Young earth creationists (such as Ken Ham, as well as scholars from Answers in Genesis and the Institute for Creation Research) use the Bible to date the world around 6,000 years old. Thus, this theory holds that we are at the very end of the 6 “days” of work, and are at the cusp of the 7th “day” of rest as fulfilled in the millennial kingdom.

Again, this is just a theory, but it does cause the believer to pause and ask how close are we to the rapture of the church and the "last days" as we known them to be? Interesting stuff!
