Keep the Sabbath Day (Deuteronomy 5:12-15)

The Sabbath Day is for observing the rest and redemption of God that is in Christ Jesus. It is not the Business Day of the church where on the first day we contribute the first fruits of our time talent and treasures to the work of the Lord. In this message we show how Christ kept the Sabbath Day, how we as Christians are to follow Him into His Rest and the errors of tradition which the Jews and many modern-day Sabbath keeper groups can fall into when attempting to observe the Sabbath as a work.

We first see the Sabbath when God rested from creation works, then we see it in the completed Israelite redemption of God from bondage in Egypt, then we see the sabbath rest of Christ from His completed redemptive work on the Cross. We then show from the life of Christ that Keeping the Sabbath Day as a Christin is to cease from our own works and labour to bring others into the redemptive rest of Christ.

In this we see that the true Christian keeps the Sabbath Day not to justify or redeem himself but to cease from his own works as God did from His so that he can do good and redeem others as Christ has taught us. Lastly, we speak about why the teaching that "Sabbath is now Sunday" is in error and is not a doctrine that Christians should claim or teach.

Luke 13:10-17 And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath. 11 And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself. 12 And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity. 13 And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. 14 And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day, and said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day. 15 The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering? 16 And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day? 17 And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.
