Day 5 — Deuteronomy 6:4: The Shema and the Unity of God

Deuteronomy 6:4 — “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.”

For centuries this verse has been used to argue that God must be a solitary, single-person being.
But the Hebrew text doesn’t actually teach that — and when we look closely, the Shema becomes one of the strongest foundations for understanding God’s unity with depth, not simplicity.

In this teaching we explore:

• what “the LORD is one” really means in Hebrew
• why echad never implies a solitary monad
• how the Old Testament’s own context points to relational unity
• why the Shema prepares the ground for the Father, Son, and Spirit
• how ancient Israel understood the Name, Presence, and Glory of God

The Shema doesn’t contradict the Trinity — it requires a richer unity than Unitarian readings can offer.
